There are three protected national parks in Rwanda are designated for conservation: Akagera National Park, Nyungwe National Park, and Volcanoes National Park, the only place for chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda. When you visit the parks, you will see the most extraordinary diversity of large animals, including the 13 primate species in Nyungwe forest, mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, African golden cats, African clawless otter, Burchell’s zebra, impala, and hippopotamus, among others. Some adventure activities include mountain gorilla trekking, birdwatching, hiking, cultural experiences, classic game drives and relaxation on Lake Kivu. Tourists from far away visit Rwanda yearly to see what the country offers. If you are a birdwatching lover, there are over 670 species of birds in Rwanda.

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes national Park is a must-see for all Rwanda Gorilla Safaris since it has the largest concentration of mountain gorillas in the Virunga Conservation Area. Additionally, Volcanoes Park is home to other wildlife species, including the spotted hyena, buffaloes, black-fronted duiker, bushbuck and elephants. Volcanoes National Park harbours an estimated 200 bird species, with at least 29 endemic ones. The golden monkey trekking complements the gorilla trekking, a rare and exciting experience not to be missed.

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last remaining refuge for savannah-adapted species in Rwanda. The park is in northeastern Rwanda, covering 1122sq km (433sq mi) and bordering Tanzania. It is one of the biggest parks in Rwanda and best known for wildlife viewing. The magnificent beauty of Akagera National Park comprises savannah vegetation, woodland, wetland areas and a dozen lakes supported by River Kagera. An estimated 500 bird species are in the park, making it a birders paradise. The park is also home to over 8000 wild animals, including the famous Big Five( Elephants, Buffalos, Rhinos, Lions and Leopards). The great Kagera River is a source of water for the Kagera Lakes and also a source for the Nile River.

Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of Rwanda's biggest and most pristine national parks, covering an area of approximately 1,019 square km (393 sq mi) located southwest of Rwanda. The park is a hidden gem in the middle of tea plantations and is stunning, with a vantage point of the picturesque views of the Virunga Mountains and Congo. Nyungwe National Park stretches from Lake Albert to Lake Tanganyika, which is covered by numerous lakes and mountains. There are two groups of habituated chimpanzees: the smaller group of 30 located in the Cyamudongo area and the large group of 60 inside the forest. Nyungwe Park also has the most prominent black and white colobus monkey troops, and the Gisakura area has the second group of habituated colobus monkeys
