Paje Beach

Paje Beach is on the southeast coast of Zanzibar Island. It is one of the best beaches in Zanzibar. Paje Beach is famous for its water sports and thrilling adventures. Some activities include sailing, kite surfing, and scuba diving. The tropical warm water of the Indian Ocean and the stunning coral reef are havens for seal life creatures such as starfish, moray eels, trumpet fish, sea turtles, and other colourful marine creatures.

Kite Surfing

Paje Beach is famous for kite surfing due to wind conditions and the calmness of the lagoon. Several surfing schools offer lessons for beginners, though you must be patient. It takes time to learn the skill, and you will spend a lot of time on the beach as you learn how to control the kite. Kite Surfing costs approximately $420 for 6 hours for beginners on one-to-one private lessons. If you are interested, the best times for this experience are from June to September, a peak period.

Experience Paje Beach

Paje is endowed with stunning natural scenery. The beach itself is a long stretch of white sand bordered by palm trees and dotted with thatched-roof beach bars and bungalows. The offshore coral reef serves as a barrier, creating a lagoon-like area that is safe for swimming and ideal for various water activities. Paje is Zanzibar’s kite surfing capital, especially popular between June and October and then again from December to February when the winds are most reliable. Beginners and experts alike will find something to enjoy here, with many kite surfing schools and rental shops available. Other activities include snorkeling, diving, and stand-up paddleboarding. The beach is also popular for dolphin tours.


Mwani Zanzibar-Sea Weed Center / Paje Seaweed Center Tour

If you love conservation-focused experiences, the seaweed centre is a fantastic place to visit while on Paje Beach. You will learn how African tradition combined with modernity gives rise to cosmetics for body care, such as butter soaps and scrubs. The women working at the centre share in the company's profits, allowing them to care for their families. It is a perfect opportunity to learn about seaweed farming in Zanzibar, one of the island's biggest exports. The tour takes approximately 90 minutes. Half of the time, you will visit the farm at the beach, and the other half will proceed to the centre. The tour cost approximately $10.The centre can only be visited during the low tide, and the tours do not leave at a set time as the lagoon must be empty.


Getting There?

The drive from the airport is approximately an hour from Stone Town and Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. The driving distance is about 50km, and the driving time is around 1 hour 30 minutes. Road transfers from the airport to the hotel cost roughly $50, usually one-way.
